Review of LOTD T2 Performance in Atlanta 3/10/2010

First of all, I would like to say that Troupe 2 put on a fabulous show for us tonight! I thoroughly enjoyed the show! Now, on to some specifics!

Firstly, I was elated and RELIEVED to see that troupe 2 has the finer set compared to that ghastly black and silver set that troupe 1 uses. The set that T2 (I will use this to describe the troupe now b/c I am getting tired of typing out 'troupe') uses has a unicorn displayed above the large panel that depicts two wolves heads interlaced with Celtic knotwork. Archways go out on either side of the panel, and they go to a height of about half the size of the panel. Four chrome pillars are stationed at certain points, and they also feature knotwork. These hold the lights. Some lights were also overhead which were used as stage washes. Anyways, some of you may already know what it looks like, but whatever, I just thought that I would say.

Now I will give a run down of the characters, the people who played them, and what I thought of their performance.

The Little Spirit: Sarah Sullivan- She is WAAAAAY better than what Helen Egan did before she left the show. There was none of that over-the-top dancing and hand movements from her. She kept it simple, and very real. Not once did she make me not want to watch her.

Saoirse: Maggie Revis- She was better than Bernadette, in that she didn't over-do the hand motions and arm movements. Her solo's were good, but they lacked that extra spark. Part of the reason that that might be could be blamed on the speed of her spins. They were downright WIMPY. Her skirt didn't billow ONCE. She also didn't put enough speed to her traveling around the stage either in my opinion .

Morrighan The Temptress: Katie Kerrigan- She was good at points (especially the feet first flip over her head that she did in Fiery Nights.). But as a whole, she did not convince me that she was Morrighan. Side note: No one except for Aisling Murphy (and what little I have seen of her dancing on YouTube) has done Morrighan justice like Leigh Anne McKenna and Gillian Norriss have.

Don Dorcha: Adam McSherry: He was good at first, but when it got to "Dangerous Game" he started to be less fierce. (He wasn't even that fierce to begin with!!!) He was good in "Nightmare" though.

The Lord: ? (Somebody who went needs to help me out here): He was great! Consistent in his character. Used the whole stage for his solos! I think he could have been a bit more edgy with the Dark Lord though. That is his only fault.

Erin The Goddess: Mary-Ann Roddy- She was good in "I Dreamt I Dwelt" and "Carrickfergus". "An Mhagidan Mara" was not great. Her pronunciation was ATROCIOUS. Some words were hard to catch when she sang. And she sometimes had this country singer kind of delivery to her singing that totally wasn't appropriate.

The Costumes: They were AMAZING! I still don't like the clan costumes for Cry Of The Celts though, or the Siamsa costumes. (The blacklight effect is cool though.)

Choreography: It was good for the most part. However there were some changes that I did not approve of. One such change was that it was Don Dorcha who sped up the pace during "Hell's Kitchen" instead of the Lord. The Lord also never interacted with his army. He just stood there!!!! Also, Don Dorcha took his time in breaking the Little Spirit's penny whistle, and the Lord takes his time mending it!

Well, that is it for my criticisms of the show. Again, I will have to say that it was a great show as a whole, and I am glad I went to see it!
