Lord and lady of the dance
An Irish couple are taking America by storm on the Superstars of Dance TV show.
Superhoofers Bernadette Flynn and Damien O’Kane wed three years ago and toured the world together as the lead performers in Lord of the Dance.
And they are now representing Ireland on the hit American reality TV show with a team of dancers from the Michael Flatley extravaganza.
Bernadette said: “It’s a really crazy experience and it’s been such a whirlwind.
“It’s big thing on the show that we’re married and they have featured that a lot.
“We have worked as a duet for years, but when you have that connection it’s different.”
The couple have performed together on the dance contest and have also been singled out as solo dancers from the troupe.
Bernadette admitted it was a nerve-wracking experience as a massive 10 million people watched the first US show.
And she isn’t bothered that critics gave the show a roasting.
Proud
She said: “I enjoyed it to watch and I love and appreciate dance. I couldn’t criticize it.
“Everyone up there is passionate about what they do and the critics never bother me.
“We represented Ireland and we were very proud to do that and we’re there to do our best.”
Bernadette and Damien, who are from Nenagh and Derry, respectively, met for the first time 13 years ago when they joined the Lord of the Dance.
And they both reckon that working and travelling together makes married life much easier.
Superstars of Dance starts at 9pm tonight on TV3.
